  • I’m embedding myself in another city for two weeks. Help me decide which one.

I love traveling. Last year my wife and I took a two month trip around the world. During our trip, we tried to embed ourselves in cities, meet the community, and spend time with the local startup scene. It was awesome.

I’m going to try to do this a bit more often. Instead of two month trips, I’m going to aim for two week trips. I’ll pick one city, rent an apartment and just live and work there. Since I’m a software guy, I’m for the most part location independent, which is why this could work.

The goal of each trip will be to keep working and producing, but also meet startup communities in different cities around the world.

My first trip is going to be late August / early September (~Aug 29-Sept 12). Now I need to pick where to go.

For some reason, Asia has been provoking me recently. So I’m considering the following cities:

    • Bangkok
    • Hong Kong
    • Shanghai
    • Beijing
    • Singapore
    • Kuala Lumpur

I’ve been to all those cities, which is ideal for the first trip. I dont want to feel like I need to sightsee.

So, my question to you is: What city would you recommend? Which city has the best startup scene mixed with a great, inspiring energy, and delicious food?

    3. simondlr answered: I’m going to be biased and say Cape Town. The next startup weekend is on the 31st Aug as well. Great food, sunny, burgeoning scene.
    4. joshuanguyen answered: hong kong - for the startups & food (slight edge over shanghai)
